Kratom | What is it? Why use it? Where to buy?
What is Kratom?
Kratom is a natural herb derived from the leaves of Mitragyna speciosa, an evergreen tree indigenous to Southeast Asia. Kratom contains more than 25 alkaloids including mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, which is currently being studied for its analgesic and antitussive properties. Although kratom has been used traditionally in Thailand and Malaysia for centuries, it was originally discovered by Western scientists in the 19th century. Today, kratom can be found on the shelves of health food stores and head shops where it can be sold as capsules or tea bags but also buy kratom online from top vendors like Bearly Legal Kratom.
On its own, kratom has anecdotally been said to provide pain relief not just from physical ailments like arthritis but also from emotional distress such as anxiety and depression. Taken in low doses, it has stimulant-like effects that increase energy levels while improving mental clarity; high doses have opioid-like effects that provide a sense of euphoria without overstimulation. Beyond these well-known effects are other therapeutic properties being studied including possible treatment for alcoholism addiction, tobacco cessation aid, epilepsy prophylaxis ,and PTSD therapy adjuncts.
How does Kratom work? Here's the science behind Kratom's Pain Relieving Properties
Like many other plants, Mitragyna speciosa contains alkaloids that are structurally similar to those found in the opium plant. Mitragynine has pain-relieving properties that are reminiscent of opium. Kratom binds to mu- receptor sites in our brain that normally react to endogenous opioids released by our adrenal glands to help manage pain.
Historically kratom has been used by Southeast Asians who use it in low doses to stimulate and energize, while higher doses have been used by people in the West to have euphoria-inducing effects. The same opioid receptor sites that respond to kratom also respond to other opiates that are derived from the opium poppy such as oxycodone and hydrocodone apart from mitragynine itself, hence the similar effects.
Kratom also works in a very different way to conventional analgesics (painkillers). While we've all come across common pain relievers like aspirin, ibuprofen, paracetamol, and morphine, these drugs act on very specific targets in our body that normally help regulate the amount of pain that we feel. There are two types of opioid receptors in the brain – mu and delta. When our body's natural endorphins bind to mu receptors it results in feelings of pleasure and euphoria. This is why so many people take low doses of kratom for stimulation. By binding to the delta receptors in our brain, morphine and other opioid drugs can relieve pain.
How many types of Kratom are there?
There are three primary types of kratom on the market today.
- The first is Bali kratom which is classified as a stimulant. Due to it's stimulating effects, most bali kratom users take a low to moderate dose to boost energy while increasing their mental clarity and focus. Bali kratom also has another benefit as it helps to suppress your appetite which can help you lose weight without having to go on a diet.
- The second variety is Maeng Da Kratom which has an energizing yet euphoric effects on users. As you may expect, this variety is also used to help increase energy and improve mood.
- Finally, there's red vein kratom which is a mild sedative. Red kratom has been used traditionally in Southeast Asia to help with chronic pain. While it does not have the opiate-like effects of other varieties of kratom, it does provide some pain relief as well as a sense of relaxation without drowsiness.
What is nanoemulsified kratom? How does nano-emulsification improve the effects of kratom?
Nanoemulsification is a process by which large molecules are emulsified in water to create nano-sized droplets. It's a process that is well-known in the food industry. Nanoemulsified kratom takes several steps to produce with the first being done on an industrial level followed by several other processes on a smaller scale such as hand blending and cold pressing. The end result is kratom nanoemulsion formulations like Bearly Legal Kratom Softgels that are easy to digest and can provide rapid absorption of active ingredients which improves effects on users.
Highly concentrated kratom like Bearly Legal Kratom Softgels are also known to have less side effects than other forms of the herb. Active ingredients of kratom are easily absorbed through the stomach and quickly metabolized by the liver which gets rid of any undesirable effects.
